About The Mainstream Media Project
|
|
Who We Are & What We Do
|
Founded in 1995, the Mainstream
Media Project (MMP) is a nonprofit
public education and strategic communications
organization that uses the mainstream broadcast
media to raise public awareness about new
approaches to longstanding societal problems.
MMP pursues its public education mission through
two complimentary programs:
-
Our Guests
on Call program
issues media alerts pegged to breaking news
events to regional and national radio markets,
booking radio interviews with experts, analysts,
stakeholders and on-the-ground practitioners.
-
Our award-winning, nationally and internationally
syndicated radio program, "A
World of Possibilities," features
leading policy analysts and social innovators
from around the world addressing key global
issues.
MMP's public education strategies reach American radio listeners with
insights and perspectives that deepen their
understanding of critical national and international
issues. At a fraction of the cost of paid
media, the project has been reaching millions
of listeners at once, not for sound bites
but for sustained, interactive conversations
about major environmental, security, economic
and social issues. And it has done so not
only in the polite precincts of public radio
but in the boisterous marketplace of the commercial
mass media.
The project has proven especially
useful to foundations, nonprofit organizations,
and citizen coalitions interested in raising
the level of public awareness of their initiatives.
Our programs effectively inform broader publics
about the vitally important but little-known
work of nongovernmental organizations and
individuals.
